The over thirty students who have received a contribution from THE KELLNER FAMILY FOUNDATION in order to pursue their studies will further their academic or artistic education in the U.S. (5 students), England (17), Scotland (3), Germany (1), Italy (1) and also in the Czech Republic (4). “The costs of studying at a foreign university range from approximately tens of thousands to one million Czech crowns per school year in the case of prestigious U.S. universities. Students usually pay for their studies from various sources – the foundation’s grants, the scholarships provided by universities, and their own funds,” clarifies Hana Halfarová, Director of the Universities project, who adds “Our students will attend, for example, Yale University, the University of Oxford, The University of Edinburgh, University of St Andrews and The Juilliard School of Music New York.”
Students who achieve excellent academic results who, however, could not even think of continuing their studies because of their financial situations, receive grants under the UNIVERSITIES project from THE KELLNER FAMILY FOUNDATION. In their application for a grant, the applicants describe their school and other academic achievements, and attach a letter of proof of their language skills, a letter of recommendation from someone participating in their academic or artistic development, an essay on their plans for the future, and evidence of their current financial situation. The foundation’s Board of Trustees decides on grants on the basis of selections and recommendations by Mrs. Hana Halfarová, Director of the Universities project. The foundation’s Board of Trustees is composed of Mr. Petr Kellner, PPF founder and majority stockholder, his wife Renáta, co-founder of the family foundation and the OPEN GATE boarding school, and Mr. Jan Leiner, trustee. “The students’ experiences from foreign universities, which they describe in their blogs posted on THE KELLNER FAMILY FOUNDATION website, can be inspirational for others,” notes Mrs. Hana Halfarová. The foundation will accept students’ applications for the next school year until May 31, 2012.
